At the time of accession in 1962, it was suggested that this pair of spring skates is about 75 years old. Therefore the pair might be from the 1880s? Original provenance is unknown.
They were made by the Starr Mfg. Co. of Halifax, Nova Scotia. The 1901-1902 T. Eaton & Co. catalogue (Fall & Winter edition), p. 203 illustrates some Starr hockey skates, at a dollar a pair.
