Description Flat worked stone (a) and handle (b). On donor card: "This axe was found in an old sawmill at Manitowaning, given to Mr. Brown (donor) about 1940." In John Landen's (Curator before 2004) handwriting: "This axe is not authentic."
Provenance Owned by Stan Brown who was a resident of Owen Sound, Ontario, and worked as a compositor. He eventually had his own print shop, Stan Brown Printers, at Owen Sound. In 1956, he said that this stone axe item was found in an old sawmill at Manitowaning (on Manitoulin Island), and given to him in 1940.
