Description This is a doll-sized oval laundry (clothes) basket. This toy basket was played with by the donor when she was a girl, c. 1906. See RELATED, for she also donated a wooden toy clothes wringer (1959.002.028), and a child's washboard (1959.002.027) so it appears that she used to play "laundry day".

Provenance Previously owned by Mrs. William G. Reid, was formerly Miss Jean Givens. She was born in 1899, and her parents were Mr. and Mrs. James Givens, who married in 1898. The Givens family farmed in the Massie district of Holland Township, Grey County. She said that she owned and played with this toy basket about 1906. Mrs. Reid later lived in Owen Sound, Ontario. She was born in 1899 and died in 1991.

James R. Givens was born in 1875 and died in 1958. His wife, Mary Ann "Minnie" McKay Givens was born in 1871 and died in 1950. They are buried at Greenwood Cemetery, Owen Sound.
