Description This is a woman's hand-knitted fancy white cotton yarn stocking. There is a 3 cm-deep ribbing at the top, and 8.2 cm is plain. The long leg and upper foot areas have an overall pattern of ovoid shapes knitted into it. The heel and lower foot areas are plain. There is no elastic.
Provenance Previously owned by Mrs. Frank W. Smith, inherited a number of items that had formerly belonged to her grandmother, Mrs. Gideon Carrie. Mrs. Carrie had farmed in Sydenham Township, Grey County in the 19th-century. Mrs. Carrie's husband, Gideon, was 42 years old in the 1871 census of Sydenham Township, Grey County. Mrs. Carrie's maiden name was _______.

Mrs. Frank W. Smith was the former Miss Agnes McQuaker, daughter of John McQuaker and a Miss Carrie).
