Previously owned by Joe Shields who pioneered on the 3rd Line (Concession) of St. Vincent Township, Grey County, circa 1880 who harvested maple sap.
An 1865 source lists "Shields, Joseph Sr." at Concession 3, Lot 5, and "Shields, Joseph Jr." at Concession 2, Lot 10, both in St. Vincent Township.
An 1890 farmer's directory's St. Vincent Township section listed Joseph Shields and a "G McG Shields" at Concession 10, Lot 16. A Mr. James Shields was at Concession 3, Lot 2, and a John Shields was at Concession "C", Lot 5.
It was last owned by his grandson, Roy Shields of RR 1, Meaford, Grey County.
