Description Rectangular, woven First Nations-made reed basket (a) and its lid (b). Basket is brown with two looped handles attached to the long sides of the basket. There are multi-coloured checker board patterns on the sides in dark brown and light brown reeds. The lid has a lip that allows it to fit inside the basket mouth securely without falling off.
Provenance The basket was owned by the Gaviller family for many years (they obtained it in the 1880s?). The family history said that the basket was "obtained from Indians in the Moon & French River area of Muskoka". Some of the Gaviller family later resided in Owen Sound, Grey County.
