|Description||Stencilled apple crate from Thornbury, Ont. This crate has two elliptical holes cut in the shorter ends to serve as handle areas. The shorter ends are stencilled with PROPERTY OF THE GEORGIAN BAY FRUIT GROWERS LIMITED THORNBURY ONT". One short end has "A / 438" hand-lettered on it (upper left corner) and has "318" stencilled. The other short end has "504" stencilled faintly. The crate has tongue & groove slats on the sides, and vertical slats at the exterior corners have several round head nails pounded in.|
This is a 20th-century apple crate. It was made for or by The Georgian Bay Fruit Growers Ltd. of Thornbury, Grey County and presumably used to ship their fruit/products.
