Title Jabot-Style Collar
Lexicon category 3: Personal Artifacts
Description This is a woman's white jabot and collar neckwear item, with a pink design. The collar is rectangular, with a strip of pink trim curving from the upper corner of each end down to the centre of the item where the jabot attaches. There are two grommets(?) that hold the jabot to the collar. The jabot is vaguely diamond shaped and has a vertical strip of the pink trim bisecting it down its centre.
Provenance Previously owned by Miss Jessie MacKay. Miss MacKay's mother was a Miss McElheron before her marriage. Miss MacKay's parents farmed in Sydenham Township, Grey County. She didn't say what year they married. The item likely dates from the 1850s? Neil and Hugh McElheron originated from Ireland and are related to the McClartys. The McElherons spent some time in the United States before they moved to Grey County.
