Description Pair of women's knee-length white cotton socks. There are seven columns of knitted decoration that extends from the mid-shin on the front and sides. The toe, sole, back and upper portion (above mid-shin) are plain. There is a row of little circles around the upper portion of the socks and there is vertical ribbing around the top opening.
Provenance The stockings formerly belonged to Mrs. Gideon Carrie. Mrs. Carrie's husband, Gideon, was 42 years old in the 1871 census of Sydenham Township, Grey County. Mrs. Carrie's maiden name was _______. The items were passed down to her daughter, Mrs. John McQuaker of Owen Sound, Grey County, and her daughter, Mrs. Frank W. Smith.
