Description This is a wooden-spoked FORD automobile wheel and tire, c. 1920? There is an outer steel rim, with an inner wooden rim into which the twelve spokes are inserted. The wooden rim is bolted to the steel rim in four places, two of which have an oval metal plate with an emboss-style "K" on them. A tube (through which which air would be pumped into the tire) protrudes through the two rims. The brake drum (21 cm in diameter), and the hub, are cast iron. The drum is bolted to the hub plate. The rubber tire on it is a B.F. Goodrich one, 30 x 3 1/2. The hub area has Ford identification. The hub cap is brass.
Makers mark "FORD" present on the hub
Provenance Ford produced Model T Fords between 1908 and 1927. This wheel likely dates from that era. Someone suggested to museum staff that it may be a c. 1920 wheel.
