Description This is a square-shaped, openwork white doily. It is likely a type of drawnwork, with needlemade filling stitches. It has an openwork edge/hem and an openwork, diamond-shaped centre inset. The solid fabric around the diamond and inside the edging looks losely woven.
Provenance This doily formerly belonged to Mrs. Gideon Carrie. Mrs. Carrie's husband, Gideon, was 42 years old in the 1871 census of Sydenham Township, Grey County. Mrs. Carrie's maiden name was Helen Reid.

Mrs. Frank W. Smith, who inherited a number of items from her grandmother, and brought the item to the museum, was the former Miss Agnes McQuaker, daughter of John McQuaker and a Miss Carrie).
