Description Oil painting, "Indian Head", Early American, by Harvey Thompson. The painting depicts a First Nations male (Chief?) from the plains from his chest upward. He is wearing a feathered headress (black with white tips) and is wrapped in a brown coloured shiny (fur?) robe.
Provenance John J. Landen, the first curator of the County of Grey-Owen Sound Museum at Owen Sound, Ontario, made a display card stating that this painting was made by Harvey Thompson, and that it depicts a Plains Indian man. We do not know what year Mr. Thompson painted it, but it was donated in 1959, so it pre-dates then. In 1959, Mr. Thompson resided at Owen Sound, Ontario. There also was a note that he overpainted it in 1964.
