The dish is white, with an outer rim of about 2.5 cm that has short, thick orange stripes on it. The narrow end of the dish has the same orange-coloured marking. There are moulded oval shapes. The base has the numeral "3" above the numerals "4448". The cover is white, with an orange floral and paisley-like transfer print. Near the bottom edge of the cover is a narrow gold trim. The handle on top of cover is white with plain gold stripes on it. It is moulded to look like a bow. The cover has the numerals "4448" as well.|
|Makers mark||"3" above "4448"|
The previous owner, Albert Clements, did not provide any information on the provenance and ownership history of this item.
The lack of a pottery mark suggests that it pre-dates the 1890s, when exported wares had to be marked re their country of origin.
