Description This is a wooden, roller-type butter roll decorator with a hole through its middle. It is a rolling-style item, 7.1 cm in diameter. It has "GxR" carved with other motifs.
Provenance This butter decorator was hand-made by David Reid of Bognor, Sydenham Township, Grey County, Canada West. He used a pocket knife to carve it. It was given to his niece, Mrs. Gideon Carrie, in 1858. Her daughter, Mrs. John McQuaker, of Owen Sound, Ontario later kept it. Then owned by Mrs. Frank W. Smith (nee Agnes McQuaker) of Owen Sound. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John McQuaker.
