Description First Nations-made woven reed basket reportedly from the Moon and French Rivers area (but looks like a British Columbia Salish-style basket). It is rectangular and has a flattish fitted lid.
Provenance Unknown. Owned by the Gaviller family for many years (they obtained it in the 1880s?). The family history reports that the basket was "obtained from Indians in the Moon & French River area of Muskoka". Some of the Gaviller family later resided in Owen Sound, Grey County. It was last owned by Dr. Charles Gaviller and his son Dr. Edwin Gaviller.
