Description Marker for determining different thickness of wood. It is wooden, and has a triangular shape with ridges formed with wooden slats. There is a projecting wooden piece. There are no maker's marks.
Provenance The last owner, Mr. George A. Ducker, resided at Owen Sound, Ontario. He reported that this 19th-century plane had originally belonged to Mr. Henry Van Dusen [Vandusan] (1860-1880). At that time, they made all of their own moulding (no factories to do it). Donor estimated in 1959 that they were 80 to 100 years old Henry Van Dusen was the grandfather of Olive McDonald and the father of Mrs. George A. Ducker. Henry Van Dusan died on April 3, 1920, at the age of 83 (two weeks after his wife).
