Description Square-shaped ceramic butter dish (a) with lid (b). Both pieces have a floral pattern on black.
Small square butter dish (a) with off-white glaze. The base: "NC" or "CN" stamped. Has gold trim on rim and base interior and green trim around rim. Black body and off white base. There arefour brown transfer flowers, one on each side with hand-painted detail in green, blue, orange, peach, pink. The lid (b) has off white interior and black hand-painted exterior with multi-coloured transfer prints of flowers. It is square-shaped with a gold square knob lift handle.
Makers mark base: "NC" or "CN" stamped cipher-style
Provenance The previous owner, Margaret McEachern, reported in 1961 that this butter dish had formerly belonged to the late Jennie Milburn Mitchell.
