Notes |
The company likely began circa 1920, as a 1936 newspaper article mentioned that the Handy Things Manufacturing Company had been in continuous operation for sixteen years. They advertised in 1936 that they "We Make Over 150 Handy Things". Some of their products included, bathroom fixtures, towel bars, towel racks, toothbrush holders, soap dishes, and laundry equipment. They also made ironing boards. A variety of "kitchen gadgets" were also made, such as a "fruit press and ricer" item, fruit jar wrenches, tongs, etc. In 1936, Walter H. Pleiss was the President and Manager of the company. He originally had worked in Chicago. Mr. Pleiss apparently had purchased the company from a Justin Smith Stearns, in 1920, a businessman who had bought a company in 1917. In 1981, the company moved from Ludington to Missouri. In the 1970s, the company produce Christmas Tree holders, and some automotive parts. |
