In the 1930s-1940s, Gordon Buzza was a professional photographer at Owen Sound, Grey County. Gordon Buzza's father was Charles W. Buzza, who apprenticed at Wiarton before buying Byers Jewellery store at Owen Sound in 1898, a main street location. In 1917, the Buzza Bros. store was at 961 2nd Ave. East. In 1927, Buzza Brothers Jewellers moved to another location in town, ____ 2nd Ave. East. Gordon Buzza trained as a photographer overseas with Dr. C. Y. Hauch during the Second World War. He returned to the jewellery business in 1952. Buzza Jewellers was later operated by Douglas Elder, the son of Dorothy Vick. "Club News", THE SUN-TIMES (Owen Sound), Oct. 6, 1993. 125th AUDITORIUM (re the Owen Sound Collegiate & Vocational Institute-O.S.C.V.I.) page 57 shows Gordon Buzza in a 1938 group photograph. The Buzza family had been in Sydenham Township in the 19th-century, and also had a connection to New Brunswick further back. Gordon's Dad, Charles William Buzza was born in Sydenham in 1878, but his family moved to Derby Township sometime before the 1891 census. Gordon's parents, Charles and Cora, were married on January 17, 1911, and were listed in the 1911 census. Gordon was born later that year on December 5, 1911. |
