R. Corbet is shown in a group photograph recording the Owen Sound City Council of 1920. See photograph 1960.057.001. According to Melba Croft, "During May [1915] the annual nurse's graduation service was held, with Father Burke chairing the event. Miss E. Wood [sic], Superintendent, presented diplomas. Two graduates were from Owen Sound--Miss Inez Johns and Miss Jessie Willison. Mrs. R. Corbett, a former Superintendent, presented the graduates with pins. The ceremony had become one of the social events of early summer." There was a Robert Corbet who served as a volunteer fireman in Owen Sound in the late 19th-century. In the early 20th-century, there was an event that honoured the "old-time" firefighters of the town: James McLauchlan, Dr. Allan Cameron, Henry Taylor, G. W. Rankin, C. K. Baines, William Hemstreet, Dave Stoddart and Amos Ward were also volunteer firefighters in the late 19th-century. |
