Mrs. Ethel Hemstock was a housewife and dressmaker at Hemstock's Mill, in Sullivan Township, Grey County, Ontario. Her maiden name was Mary Ethel Mitchell, and she had lived in Chatsworth, Ontario before her marriage to John Thomas Hemstock in 1916. She was 20 years old at that time. Her parents were Robert Mitchell and Mary (Edgar) Mitchell. In the 1901 census, Ethel was 15 years old. When she was 20 years old, she married John Thomas Hemstock, on June 28, 1916. He was 27 (b.
