Robert Holmes emigrated to Canada from England in 1816. An 1863 source has William Holmes and Robert Holmes listed as lime-burners, east side of Garafraxa Road (the Holmes cabin was somewhere on "Garafraxa St."and is seen in a photograph in the Grey County Archives). An 1879 map of Owen Sound has his lime kiln locations marked. The Holmes brothers were at Puslinch before coming to Owen Sound.
