Ernst Kuglin had a harness shop in Williamsford, Grey County in the late 19th-century. He had served his harness-making apprenticeship in Germany, and served for a while with the Prussian Army. He emigrated to Buffalo circa 18__ and came to Canada shortly after. In the 1901 census, he was recorded as emigrating to Canada in 1___. (1882? 1885? ) In the 1911 census he was ______. In the 1921 census, he was _________. Ernst was an early member of the St. James Lutheran Church at Williamsford. This church conducted its services in German until 1927. He and Mrs. Kuglin are buried at St. James Lutheran Cemetery, along with Lloyd Kuglin (b. 1900-d. 1972) and Lloyd's wife Thelma Liscombe Kuglin (1905-1985). Several of Ernst Kuglin's leatherworking tools are now at Grey Roots. 1974.061.001 is a straw mattress that belonged to the Kuglins and was brought from Buffalo in 1882 1974.061.002 pair of lace curtain stretchers that were brought from Buffalo |
