Elias Lemon was born in 1854. S. E. Lemon's grocery store was listed in an 1894 source as having been established in 1884. Mrs. J. B. Lemon was somehow connected to the business as well. In the 1911 book ILLUSTRATED OWEN SOUND ON THE GEORGIAN BAY, there is an advertisement for Lemon Bros. (re their wholesale fruit / produce). In 1917, the "Lemon Bros." business was located at 764 2nd Ave. East. It was still operating there c. 1926. Mr. Lemon's residence was 954 1st Ave. West There is a photograph (1980.238.001), that shows the Elias Lemon home with Mr. and Mrs. William Lemon and Mrs. Lemon's daughter, ________ (Mrs. W. C. Macneill), her husband and son Bill (then a baby). In the 1912 publication, OWEN SOUND ON THE GEORGIAN BAY, there is a composite photograph that includes Mayor Elias Lemon "in the chair". In 2008, Tracey Dejong owns an original of this 1912 town council photograph. Also see another town council photograph that is in the archives. In 1915, E. Lemon was a trustee and life governor of the Owen Sound General & Marine Hospital, while Mrs. Elias Lemon was Chairman of the House Committee there. Elias Lemon passed away in 1933. He and other Lemons are buried at Greenwood Cemetery. 1969.088.167 Stationary Engineers souvenir booklet has a welcome from Mayor E.
