In the 1922 Vernon's Directory of Owen Sound, druggist Harry E. Middlebro' was situated at 878 2nd Ave. East. This was along main street. In the 1921 census, his family residence was recorded as 353 13th St. East. He was then 48 years old, his wife Mary was 45, and their daughters, Margaret and Dorothy, were both 19 years old. When he was 86 years old, Harry Middlebro' was struck by an automobile and later died in hospital from his injuries. He is buried at Greenwood Cemetery in Owen Sound. On a King Oval bottle that was labelled by H. E. Middlebro' or someone at his drugstore, the label mentions the business being known as the "Corner Pharmacy". The bottle post-dates 1912, as it has a Richards Glass Co. mark on the underside (Richards Glass Co. was incorporated on Oct. 24, 1912 and became the sales agent for the Diamond Flint Glass company. In 1913, a merger of glass companies created the Dominion Glass Co. Limited. Mr. Middlebro' had the Corner Pharmacy until 19__. Ted Tizzard was a former delivery boy for the Middlebro' pharmacy prior to getting a full-time job in 1926 at the age of 15 with the C.P.R. as a telegram delivery boy. |
