Notes |
Reverend Duncan Morrison was born in Glasgow, Scotland. He later emigrated to Canada. On October 22 1851, he was ordained as a Presbyterian minister. He and Mrs. Morrison were at Brockville before they moved to Owen Sound, Canada West. Rev. Morrison served as a Minister at Knox Presbyterian Church from October 10, 1866, until June, 1884. He also did some work with the Kilsyth Church in nearby Derby Township. A Cyclopaedia of Canadian Biography, published by Rose Publishing Co., 1888, mentioned in a biography of James Masson, that his father-in-law was Reverend D. Morrison of Owen Sound. James Masson, formerly of the Belleville area, was a barrister who moved to Owen Sound in the 1870s. Mr. Masson married the eldest daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Morrison, Jessie, in July of 1873. Mr. Masson later served as a Member of Parliament for North Grey. In the 1871 census, the Morrisons were recorded as residing at ______________ in Owen Sound. Rev. Morrison was 54 years old, his wife Jane was 53, and Jessie (26), Elizabeth (18), Ellen (16), John (13) and Benjamin (10) were listed with them. In 1872, one of the older children, David Morrison, passed away, at the age of 24, and his sister Helen Morrison passed away at the age of 20 in 1875. These tragedies likely contributed to the early passing of Mrs. Morrison, who died on March 4, 1876. Rev. Morrison passed away on January 3, 1894. He had been ill from influenza, and died at Owen Sound. He is buried at __________. The following items are at the Grey County Archives: 1964.054.001 Portrait photograph of Rev.
