Mrs. Richter was a descendent of the William Kennedy & Agnes (Stark) Kennedy family of Owen Sound, Ontario. She was also related to the T. B. Dowsley family of Owen Sound. Her parents were Mr. Ewen C. McMurtrie and his wife Marjorie (neé Kennedy), a daughter of Matthew Kennedy Sr. of Owen Sound. Matthew was a son of Wm. Kennedy Sr. William Kennedy Sr. had moved his family to Owen Sound in the 1850s and started a foundry and planing business that later became known as William Kennedy & Sons Limited. Adelaide's mother, Marjorie McMurtrie, served as the President of the Women's Auxiliary of the Owen Sound General & Marine Hospital. Circa 1950, there was a summer tea for the hospital held at the Ewen McMurtrie residence. Marjorie also worked at the family firm, William Kennedy & Sons Ltd. at Owen Sound during the Second World War, likely in the office area.
