An 1894 mercantile directory listed Ryan Brothers Dry Goods in the Owen Sound section, and made a reference to G. B. Ryan & Co. of Guelph. Ryan Bros. Dry Goods (and much of their store fixtures) became the property of McKay Brothers, who also operated a drygoods business at the Poulett St. location known as 924 2nd Ave. East (after 1909). There was a J. C. Ryan who had a cottage at Balmy Beach, just northwest of Owen Sound. 1993.024.029 Souvenir booklet, 1904, p. 70, has an advertisement for Ryan Brothers 1999.025.014 Newspaper edition, THE CHATSWORTH NEWS, June 11, 1903 has a large ad for Ryan Bros. of Owen Sound. |
