Notes |
There were five fellows with the surname Saunders listed in an 1890 farmer's directory of Sarawak Township, and two more in the Keppel Township one. Helen Saunders perhaps was married to Mark Saunders? He was listed at Lot 21, Concession 4, Keppel. His nearest post office was Cruickshank, which was on the "diagonal" government road in Keppel circa 1890. In 1896, Mark Saunders was at the east part of Lot 20, Con. 4. We need to check BEAUTIFUL STONEY KEPPEL (1986) yet to see if she is mentioned there. Mrs. Helen Saunders owned a Scottish-style leather sheath to hold her fine metal knitting needles in. The knitting needle sheath was later owned by ________( Mrs. Thomas Mason) and her daughter (Helen's grand-daughter). This type of padded leather sheath could be worn around a woman's waist. It was very useful for a woman who had to walk to fetch the cattle, etc., as then she could knit while she was outdoors. Mrs. Saunders passed away on __________. |
