Stuart Vanstone was born August 8, 1910 (his full name was William Stuart Vanstone). He attended public school at Kemble, and went to Owen Sound for his high school education and also studied at the Northern Business College there. He worked for Law Construction Co. for seven years, and then in 1937, began work with the Department of Highways. In April, 1943, Stuart joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served for three years and three months (all in Canada), until he was discharged in July, 1945. His rank was that of Gunnery Sergeant. His obituary reads: VANSTONE, Stuart (World War II Veteran) - Peacefully at the Grey Bruce Health Services in Owen Sound on Monday October 8, 2007. In his 98th year, W. Stuart Vanstone, beloved husband of the late Gladys L. Vanstone (nee Sherman, 2001). Cherished father of Patricia Rogers, and Bill Vanstone and his wife Gail. Loved grandfather of Mark Hetherinton (Sue), Susan Molnar (Alex), Scott Hetherington (Kim), Lee Ann Caiazzo (Carmine), Trisa Thompson (Jason) and Jamie Vanstone (Aimee) and 14 g-great children. Stuart was employed by the Dept. of Highways until his retirement in 1971. Greenwood Cemetery, Owen Sound. |
