Canadian veterans of the Great War formed a Canadian branch of the British Empire Service League (B.E.S.L.) in 1926. It was an amalgamation of The Great War Veteran's Association, and several smaller associations of veterans. In 1958, the name shortened to "Canadian Legion". After 1960, the logo changed to the Royal Canadian Legion name. Owen Sound was "Post No. 1" in the early days of the legion's history, but was later assigned as Branch No. 6. In 1995, Branch 6 helped with the repointing of the Annie Jaffray Eaton memorial stone cairn at St. George's Anglican Church.
