Description |
Toy-sized lithographed tin dust pan with scene of children. The handle has an orange and gold and black printed design (some floral motifs). There are two crimped tin corners, and the straighter edges are rolled. The pan area has a circular illustration of three children (2 boys, 1 girl) in a park. One boy is feeding a zoo animal that has two curved horns. The circle area has floral and butterfly motifs near it. |
Provenance |
The appearance of the toy suggests the late 19th-century. Formerly owned by Jean Givens, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Givens, who farmed in the Massie district of Holland Township, Grey County. Her parents were married in July of 1898. James R. Givens was born in 1875 and died in 1958. His wife, Mary Ann "Minnie" McKay Givens was born in 1871 and died in 1950. They are buried at Greenwood Cemetery, Owen Sound. Jean Givens (b. 1900-d.1965) resided in Owen Sound, Grey County after she married William G. (Bud) Reid. |
