Description |
Woman's black dress with ecru-coloured collar and cuffs. There are six very narrow, vertically-running pleats, then a column of self-covered buttons, pleats, buttons and pleats down front. There is a long black tie that can be tied in a bow at the neckline under the collar and two rosettes on either hip. 1930s or 1940s. |

Maker unknown. An early 20th-century item. The last owner, Bessie Newman, told museum staff that it had belonged to someone in the Witherspoon family (her husband's maternal relations). The Witherspoons had a farm at Jackson, Grey County (west of Owen Sound). Jessie, Anne, Lillian, Maud, Walter, Dave, Jim and Peter were members of the family. |
