Provenance |
One of a group of specimens pressed and mounted on paperboard that W. R. McColl assembled between 1917 to 1930. W. R. McColl was an active botanist and collector in the 1920s, and this item was likely mounted around 1920. He was an Owen Sound businessman / merchant (b. 1855-d. 1933). The Owen Sound branch of the Ministry of Natural Resources later updated the collection with white paper folder top covers, likely as environmental protection from dust and light. At an unknown date, the specimens were given to Nels Maher, an Owen Sound printer, field naturalist and fern expert, who kept them at his home. After 2005, they were kept by his wife, Jean Maher (née Weir). |
