Description |
A black-finished, wooden-knobbed hand stamp with the official round seal of S.S.#4 Collingwood School. The round design with the seal is on a piece of rubber, that is mounted on a once-brown-finished wooden square piece (now darkened). There is a convex metal piece inserted at the side, which was a way to help the user know where the top side of the design would be, to prevent the impression being printed upside down. |
Provenance |
Owned by/used by the S.S.#4 Collingwood Township School. This school was located in Collingwood Township, Grey County, at Lot 9, Concession 2. Its first teacher was Ella Osborne in 1885, and the last teacher was Claude Emerick. The school closed in 1941. In the early 1950's, the Collingwood Township School Area # 2 was formed, consisting of Second Line School, Gibraltar, Kolapore, Sixth Line, Egypt, and the Upper Sixth Line School(McKean's Mills). Francis J. McKinlay served as Secretary-Treasurer throughout the existence of Collingwood Township School Area #2. Thus this item came into his possession along with related school items and remained in the McKinlay home until 1997. The item was donated from his estate by his descendant, M. Elizabeth McKinlay. |
