Provenance |
This hat is pre-1930s and was made and sold by the Misses MacDonald Millinery shop of Owen Sound, Grey County. In an 1892 directory of Owen Sound, there was one Miss McDonald, Milliner, listed at 27 Poulett St. (main street). She lived on Bay St. In the 1902-1904 Vernon's directory, a millinery business operated by Misses S. & B. MacDonald at 28 Poulett St. is listed. They lived at 29 Stephen St. at that time. Page 619 of the UNION PUBLISHING COMPANY (OF INGERSOLL) FARMERS AND BUSINESS DIRECTORY FOR THE COUNTIES OF BRUCE, GREY AND SIMCOE, 1903, Vol. X111. lists the Misses McDonald (sic) at Owen Sound. The 1909 Cole's Directory of Owen Sound had an ad for them, at 28 Poulett St. In the 1917 telephone directory of Owen Sound, the "Misses MacDonald" were still milliners at 977 2nd Ave. East. They were listed at the same locale in a 1926 phonebook, but are not seen in a 1932 directory of Owen Sound businesses, nor in the 1936 telephone book. Last owned by Daisy Lamb (neé Wright) of Owen Sound. |
