Description |
Egg dish of unglazed, brownish bisque china comprised of a plate (a), bowl (b) and lid (c) with hen and chicks on it. The plate (a) is used to set the egg dish on. There is an embossed wheat design around rim. (b) is a bowl-like dish with a flat base and scalloped rim. There is a basket design embossed by mould on exterior. Base: "C.S" "9" or "6" impressed mark (c) is a lid with a hole drilled in underside. There is a molded hen with seven chicks (acts as handle) on moulded straw (consists of entire top). The hen and chicks have black-painted pupils. |

Provenance |
The egg dish is a pottery-made piece. Its manufacturing origin needs further research. The dish was last owned by Mrs. Beatrice McDonald of Grey County, and likely had belonged to her parents or grandparents before she had it. Beatrice (McKinley) McDonald's parents were William McKinley of Bognor, and Mary (Penner) McKinley. The McKinley family lived in Sydenham Township, Grey County, and the Penner family in Sullivan Township, Grey County. The McKinleys later moved to Holland Centre, in Holland Township, Grey County. |
