Description |
Woman's shoulder cape, all-black, with a lacy exterior. Four tiers of black lace are sewn on a finely-ribbed black silk fabric. They drape so that the fabric is hidden. The cape is hemmed, with the bottom lace piece hanging down past it to hide the plain bottom. The bottoms of the lace pieces have scalloped areas. The collar area is short, and decorated with a double black silk ruffle on the exterior. It does up by means of two sets of metal hooks and eyes. There is hand-stitching on the interior and it was likely made by a dressmaker. |
Provenance |
Maker unknown. Likely used by a woman of the Bishop or MacKay family of Owen Sound, Grey County. Last owned by Fred MacKay Jr. of Owen Sound, who was a descendant from the MacKay family, the Hiram Kilbourn family, the Ebenzeer Bishop family and the William Avery Bishop Sr. family. |
