Description |
A rectangular (landscape orientated) letterpress etched/engraved illustration printing plate, that shows a two-horse log sled with men and logs. A long slightly curved wooden piece is draped over the load of logs, likely as a means to see if the load is loaded evenly? Artwork attributed to by Roy Fleming (logging in the winter was a prevalent feature of Derby Township when Fleming was young). Back side has faint "REG. U.S. PAT. OFFICE 17 38" mark (zinc metal piece perhaps dates from 1938?) |
Makers mark |
Printed on back: "ZOM ZINC / REG U.S. PAT. OFFICE 17 38" (some of it is in outline-style lettering / numerals) |
Provenance |
Roy Franklin Fleming of Kilsyth, Derby Township, Grey County, apparently was the creator/illustrator of this item. His signature is not seen on it. The item was possibly used in Owen Sound by the R-B-W printing business of C. A. Fleming (a relative of his). It has a U.S. patent mark, but perhaps R-B-W sourced blank plates from the States at that time? The image was first published in 19__. It likely dates to the late 1930s or the 1940s? It was last owned by Ruth H. Lamour (neé Fleming) of Carleton Place, Ontario. |
