Description |
Pair of doll-sized pantaloons. The white cotton fabric is hand-sewn and the pantalettes (pantaloons) have a centre back opening that runs to the crotch. There is a button closure at the waistband. The legs are gathered and end with cuffs and lacy ruffles. There is no maker's identication on the piece. |
Provenance |
Maker unknown. The pantalettes look like 19th-century full-sized pantalettes did. This garment is not amateurish, so it likely was made by an adult seamstress. Likely used by a child of the Bishop or MacKay family of Owen Sound, Grey County. Perhaps it belonged to Mrs. William Avery Bishop. Last owned by Fred MacKay Jr. of Owen Sound, who was a descendant from the MacKay family, the Hiram Kilbourn family, the Ebenzeer Bishop family and the William Avery Bishop Sr. family. |
