Description

Clear pressed glass medicine bottle from the Parker & Co. drugstore. It has an oval / kidney-shaped footprint with one flat edge, like a flask. On the front, in moulded lettering, on an arched panel, it says "PARKER & CO / DRUGGISTS / ESTABLISHED 1856 / OWEN SOUND / ONT." It has two large chunks that have chipped off the lip, but it is clean and once took a cork.

Provenance

Likely dates from the 1890s or early 20th-century. The Parker & Co. drugstore business began in Owen Sound in the 1850s under the name of Parker & Cattle. It had a long history (and its store locations changed). Owen Sound did not have a bottle glass factory, so the bottle must have been custom-made for the drugstore at another locale.
Unknown provenance. Last owned by Mark Clement of Owen Sound, Grey County.
