Description |
One glazed ceramic round plate with a colour transfer print of a red brick church building in the centre, a colourful floral transfer prints as a border, and a 22-karat gold decor at the rim. The caption reads "Kilsyth United Church / 1903-1987" in Gothic transfer print text. The reverse side has a maple leaf Canadian Art China Ltd. (Collingwood, Ont.) mark and a transfer-printed text: "Kilsyth United Church, built in 1903, replaced [a] frame church [from] 1867. Rev. Peter McNabb was minister when the church opened, with Kilsyth and North Derby the charge. 1927 Salem joined and Keady in 1957. Salem closed 1967. At present it's a 3 point charge with Geraldine Bould our minister." |

Provenance |
Custom-ordered in 1987 by the Kilsyth United Church, from the Canadian Art China Limited company of Collingwood, Ontario. The Kilsyth United Church was formerly a Presbyterian Church prior to church union in the 1920s. Its cornerstone was laid on June 25, 1903, and it had been dedicated on December 27, 1903. The item first belonged to Marjorie Vokes (née McConnell), and was last owned by her daughter-in-law, Sharon Vokes of Kilsyth, Grey County. |
