Description |
Glazed stoneware whiskey or wine jug. It is custom-debossed with five lines of blue lettering reading: "FROM / H. LEPAN & CO / WINE & LIQUOR / MERCHANTS / OWEN SOUND". The lettering is positioned opposite the handle. The grey glaze has a textured, orange-peel quality. It has imperfections and cracks, as well as an old chip out of the lip. No pottery identification observed. |

Unknown. Dates to the late 19th-century. Belonged to H. Le Pan and Company. Henry Le Pan was born in 1845, and began his wine and spirits business circa 1872. He purchased and ordered his jugs from outside of Owen Sound, and had a jobbing trade for the Upper Great Lakes. He died in 1916. Grey Roots Museum purchased this item at the Sydenham Auction in Rockford, Grey County in October of 2013. |
