Description |
Very simple quadruple silver plated Communion wine goblet from 1879. This is part of a Communion set (see RELATED for other objects in this set). Stamped "Simpson, Hall, Miller Co. / Quadruple plate" on bottom. These goblets are called chalices. The wine would have been poured into them from a flagon (a pitcher). |
Makers mark |
Stamped on the underside with a coin-like area (round) and embossed-lettering. |
Provenance |
The wine goblet (chalice) is from the Crawford Presbyterian Church, and likely is circa 1879. The church was located in Bentinck Township, Grey County. The chalice was manufactured by the Simpson, Hall, Miller & Co. This silverware company was located at Wallingford, Connecticut and was organized in 1866 by Mr. Samuel Simpson. It was absorbed into the International Silver Co. in 1898. |
