Description |
White-glazed, scallop-edged, two-handled sugar bowl (now missing its lid), that has a transfer-printed scene of fields and buildings with "HEATHCOTE, ONT." The walls are widely-fluted. The handles each have a void at the apex, and some gilt striping. The scalloped lip was also gilt-striped, and has moulded beading and fronds on the underside of the lip. A subtle 475 mould number, impressed on the underside, is the only maker's mark . |
Provenance |
Unknown maker and provenance. Possibly custom-ordered by a store in Heathcote, Grey County, and possibly decorated in Europe? The lack of a country of origin mark suggests it pre-dates March, 1891. Collected by Glen Stephens of Williamsford, Grey County, at an unknown date. His estate was auctioned in the fall of 2017. Grey Roots Museum purchased this piece from the second of his estate auctions on September 23, 2017. |
