Provenance |
The previous owner was Mrs. Beatrice McDonald (neé McKinley), who had grown up in the village of Bognor, in Sydenham Township, Grey County. Mrs. McDonald said that this pair of "swinging clubs" was used circa 1900 at Bognor, Ontario, with Dr. E. Henry acting as instructor. In the 1901 census, Dr. Andrew E. Henry (b. May 2, 1867 in Ontario) was listed as a Physician at Bognor. He and his wife Annie and their family resided at William St., in Bognor from c. 1900-1905. In 1905, the Henry family moved to Saskatchewan. Dr. A. E. Henry (Edmund Henry) was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Henry and was born in Mono Township in 1867. He married Annie Young (b. 1869) in 1896. During the First World War, Dr. Henry served overseas with the Medical Corps. On his return, he served as a C.P.R. doctor at Ignace, Ontario for several years, and then moved to Saskatchewan again. Dr. Edmund Henry died in February, 1945 in Regina, Saskatchewan (formerly the Henrys were at Estevan, Sask.). He and Annie had a son Herbert Henry (of Winnipeg), and a daughter Helen Henry of Regina. A daughter, Frances Henry, had predeceased him in 1923. Beatrice McKinley married Peter McDonald in 1926. Her parents were William McKinley and Mary McKinley (neé Penner), who were married in 1880. They are listed in the 1901 census at Bognor. She likely was also related to Wm. McKinley Sr. (b. 1819 in Scotland) and his wife Beatrice McKinley (b. 1829 in Scotland). This older couple had emigrated in 1856. They too were in the 1901 census. Beatrice McDonald lived at Chatsworth, Ontario circa 1961. She is not listed in the 1901 census with her parents, so she likely was born after then. In 1901, William McKinley (blacksmith) and his wife Mary had two daughters listed with them, Catherine B. McKinley (b. 1886) and Bessie P. McKinley (b. 1890). |
