SCENIC CITY DAIRY glass cream bottle. The colourless pressed glass has emboss-molded lettering of "SCENIC CITY DAIRY" on one side. It has a round base. No glass factory identification is seen. |

Made for The Scenic City Dairy business which was located at 314 8th St. East, Owen Sound, Grey County, from 1939 into the 1960s. The bottle was last owned by Melville Jenks of Owen Sound, Grey County. A newspaper article in the Owen Sound Sun-Times, Feb. 27, 1960, p. 10, "Dairy Industry Annually Puts Close to $500,000 In Circulation in District", mentions that in 1960 that four dairies were currently operating in Owen Sound: Crystal Dairy, Georgian Bay Dairy, Graham's Dairy and the Scenic City Dairy. |

A cream bottle was similar to a milk bottle, but smaller. It was made to be re-used by the dairy, so it would be collected when empty, sterilized and re-used, and delivered when full, to another customer. A fresh cardboard insert would be used each time the bottle was filled, as a closure. |
