Description |
This is a large, printed Paisley shawl, with an ivory coloured interior covered in a repeating oval-shaped design. There is also a pink, red, green and blue wide Paisley-patterned inner border and then green narrow outer border. Shawl has kelly green fringe on short edges only. |
Provenance |
Brought from Langholm, Dumfrieshire, Scotland, by Mrs. Thomas Armstrong, c. 1849 (Margaret Armstrong). She was a farm wife who lived at Annan, in Sydenham Township, and died Nov. 25, 1899, age 76. The shawl was given to her daughter Margaret (Mrs. James Reid), and Margaret in turn gave it to her daughter, Elizabeth (Mrs. John Gillies). |
