Description |
A petit point embroidery on perforated paper attached to a white-striped blue ribbon bookmark. The embroidery reads "friendship's offering" with a realistic horseshoe shaped wreath of roses between the two words. The ribbon is stitched so that there is a loop in the back for an unknown purpose. Perhaps for hanging? See RELATED for other items found with this. |
Provenance |
Previously owned by Amy Kennedy who resided at Inglis Falls, in Derby Township, Grey County, and also at Owen Sound, Ontario. She was descended from Mr. and Mrs. Peter Inglis through her mother, Helen (Mrs. Thomas) Kennedy, and also from the Wm. & Agnes (Stark) Kennedy family of Owen Sound. The item has a 19th-century, Victorian appearance to it. Her father died in 1878. This bookmark is mounted together with some other samplers and bookmarks that likely were worked by Miss Isabella Inglis before she died (c. 1882-1883). She was Amy Kennedy's aunt. |
