Description |
Apple peeler with "Pat. June 14, 188-"(last date number is covered by a rivet) cast on one side. It is a screw-type parer with 3 tines for skewering the apple onto and is hand-cranked. The handle has a brown-finished wooden grip. There is a thumb screw that tightens the c-clamp to hold the peeler upright. No maker's name seen. It has two small springs. Collectors refer to these types of apple parers as lathe-style. |

Manufacturer unknown. Dates to the 19th century. Found in Owen Sound, Grey County, amongst the Dooks family's household items. The last owner, Robert Dooks, is the son of Lewis and Jean Dooks who married 1940 and lived in Clarksburg, Grey County. |
